Subject: help finding right home for two tombstones (Henry MILLER, wife Mary Elizabeth)
Date: Tue, 7 Sep 2004 20:35:11 EDT
Listers-
My wife and I put a deposit down on a house in Bedford recently, and
discovered a pair of tombstones and matching footstones inside the house - they had
obviously been removed from someplace (perhaps an old family farm cemetery).
I'd like to find if there is a "proper" place they belong - i.e., the
cemetery where these folks are buried, so I can return them.
The two in question are:
Henry MILLER, died March 7, 1877, aged 87 years, 10 months 1 day
Mary Elizabeth MILLER, his wife, died February 18, 1870, aged 81 years, 9
mos. 5 days
If my reading of the censuses are correct, these two were in Bedford Township
in 1850, with two other people (children? grandchildren?), Nancy and Jacob.
Then they were in Cumberland Valley Twp in 1860 - no children, and Henry was
still in CVT in 1870 census (but Mary Elizabeth had passed away by then).
Perhaps someone who recognizes this family could tell me where they "belong",
or perhaps somebody with a copy of the Imler cemetery books could check it
out for me.
Other suggestions are also welcome!

P.S. The last time I bought a house in Bedford, I found two tombstones face
down in the back yard - but they turned out to be "duplicates" - one from Pavia
and one from the cemetery on Route 220 just outside Bedford. I've got to be
more careful which real estate I'm buying! :-)
