Dear Kay and Kathy.
This is so wrong. I know exactly who John Felton who posted the "Bull of Excommunication" against Elizabeth I was. His wife had been a childhood playmate of both Elizabeth and Mary during the youth and she became a lady in waiting to Mary when she became Queen. He is defiantly of our same line of Feltons that we descend from. The reason that you think he may be a black person is completely false. He was described as having a 'black temper" which in those days just means he had a nasty temper. I have a couple of woodcuts of him which will go into the book and it shows him as white. There were no black people in the family until the Southern line of Feltons who owned the large plantations either fathered a few or when they were emancipated took the name of their owner and became known as Felton. There are many many instances of this happening in the South and I have had contact with a southern Felton descendant that inherited several books of the farm that
his grandparents and great grandparents owned. In those books are very carefully keep records of the births and deaths of the Blacks that were owned. It gives them the last name of Felton because that was the name of the owner which was a very common way of doing at that time.
Back to John who posted the Bull, I have had contact with the Catholic Church in Rome to find out if he had ever been canonized and have had several letters in exchange with them about his Martyrdom. This has not been done yet.
Part of the reason that this book has taken so long is that I keep finding things that will go into the work that are of very much interest to the whole family about our history. I am compiling now but there is still a long way to go.
Kathy we have had contact before, I am still working on this project, but it has taken much longer than I ever expected. When I finish this book this will all be laid out hopefully so everyone can understand it. Kay please pass this on to Kathy
Sincerely Cora
