David R. LONGENECKER of Roaring Spring, a well known retired school
teacher, farmer and lumberman celebrated his 77th birthday Sunday, Jan. 8,
at his home, where his sisters and brothers were guests of him and Mrs.
Longenecker.
He is an invalid, having been confined to his bed the past two and
one-half years, and to his home the past eight years. He is very patient
and cheerful however, and his wife is a devoted nurse.
Mr. Longenecker has eight children: Mrs. Bertha Shaffer of Scottdale;
Mrs. Millie Long, John, Clyde and Hobart of Roaring Spring; Ruth of Chester;
Mrs. Lula Bookman of Altoona and Mrs. Anna Korns of Juniata. He has one
brother and four sisters, Harry Longenecker of Roaring Spring; Misses Minnie
and Elizabeth Longenecker of Woodbury, Mrs. Emma Ketring and Mrs. Clara
Croft of Altoona.

Tuesday, Jan. 10th marked another anniversary passed by Mrs. Amanda
Gates of Woodbury, it being her eighty-second birthday.
Mrs. Gates, since the death of her husband twelve years ago has made
her home with her daughter Mrs. Elmer Grace. She has been in fairly good
health considering her age.
The day was spent very quietly at her home receiving greetings by mail
and from the following persons who called during the day, her son, J. Logan
Gates, wife and son John of Everett, and a daughter, Mrs. Ralph Miller and
son Dwayne of Roaring Spring. Other children are Mrs. Laura Wolf of
Altoona, Mrs. Mary McQuaid of Mansfield, Ohio, and Mrs. Sue Dinan of Long
Island, New York.
At the evening meal guests were her pastor, Rev. B. F. Shue and Rev.
Jonas Martin of Martinsburg.
A beautiful birthday cake, an annual gift from Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Hoffman, was given her, with the wish that she live to enjoy many more happy
birthdays.
