To all,
Be On the Look Out, I received a bogus message from a "Randal Brunner"
<> whom I do not know. I suspect it may have had the
Happy New Year 2000 virus in it,........I do not know for sure because I
deleted it the minute I saw it. The message did not come through Roots-L,
but the subject line in the message was "Berks County Register of Wills"
which means my address may have been picked up from the Rootsweb Berks-L
site.....the last message I posted had the subject "Berks County Register
of Wills" and several replies to my message carried the same subject
line. I know the address was bogus because I tried to send a message back
to Mr. Randall Brunner and it bounced back at me. I've checked my whole
computer and there seems to be no sign of a virus...I suspect it was in the
attachment which was titled "video.exe". If anyone receives a similar
message delete it IMMEDIATELY and make sure you go into your attachments
file and delete the attachment there also. Deleting the message alone
will not delete the attachment from your attachments file. It's my
understanding that the virus will not be activated unless you double click
or open the file attachment. It would be wise to accept NO file
attachments with the extension "exe" because they are executable
files. Viruses generally need to be triggered by an executable file.
