Hello, all,

I've subscribed to this list for the purpose of possibly
discovering more about my 3g grandmother, Phebe Hilles (Mrs. James) Starr
and her family.

Phebe was b. 1808 (we think); m. James Starr on May 7, 1828 (not
July 5, as some records report; an obvious transposition of the month &
day numbers; we have the original marriage certificate); and d. about
1850.

The marriage certificate of James and Phebe was signed by many
people as witnesses, but there is a box on the right in the signature area
that appears to be for immediate family. In this box are the signatures
of James Starr, Eleanor Starr (James' parents), Robert and Jane Hilles
(Phebe's parents?), Isaac Hilles, Enos Hilles, William Hilles, Sarah Lee
Cherington, David Hilles, John Starr, Mary Hilles, Ann Hilles, Isaac Lee,
Nancy (? hard to read), and Mary Lee.

At this point, we know nothing of Phebe's parents and siblings,
though we suspect, based on the signatures mentioned above, that her
parents may have been Robert and Jane Hilles.

Phebe and James reportedly had 8 children. I know of five of
these children:

Jennie Hilles Starr (1833-1919); m. Henry M. Brosius (brother of Septimus)

Mary Lee Starr (1835-1921); m. Septimus Brosius (my 2g grandparents)

Nehemiah Davis Starr b. 1838 in Fairmount, MO; m. Henrietta Headley.

Robert Starr (1840-1901); m. Mary C. Smith

William H. Starr (1843-1864)

Up to this point, the information we have about Phebe gave her
place of death as Maidencreek Twp., Berks Co., PA. This info. is from a
grandchild of Nehemiah Davis Starr. However, the fact that Nehemiah was b.
in Fairmount, MO leads me to believe the family may have moved there, and
perhaps Phebe died there. However, Phebe's husband remarried after her
death, and he and his second wife are buried at Fairmount, MO; but Phebe
is not, as far as we can tell from cemetery books.

I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone could lend towards
filling in some of these blanks.

Many thanks in advance.

Annie (Elliott) Utick of Helena, Montana.
