Hi,

I have been having alot of trouble researching my surname: Murphy.
No, it is not Irish! I have my family traced back to Johannes George
Morphy/Murphy,
1780-1865. George Murphy was born in PA and died in Monroe County,PA.
I need help coming up with the German equivalent of Morphy/Murphy. Possibly
an umlaut involved???? The family lore is that my immigrant ancestor was
orphaned coming from Europe, and the family that raised him kept the name as
best they
could.
