09. Information received, by Linda Cook, Daughters of the American
Revolution, Washington, D.C., regarding Simon Boruff (also spelled Borough,
Bogenrieff and Boerhaave), they "credit him with serving as a soldier in
1776 under Col. Deakers and as a patriot who sighed the Oath of Fidelity in
Maryland, where he resided in Georgetown, Montgomery County." Justification
submitted to DAR for spelling was by a history instructor at the University
of South Dakota who was born and reared in the Pennsylvania German area of
Berks County, PA---"In the dialect of the Tulpehocken region of Berks Co.,
PA, which was that of lower Rhenish Palatinate Region of Germany, the High
German 'gen' was not pronounced aloud."

Bogenrieff of Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, with heirs:
Henry, remaining children of Simon, remaining children of Valentine, Martin,
Catharina, Eva, Johm Adam. (Believe this to be my Simon's father and both he
and Valentine had died prior to their father.) Copy was written in "German
script" along with a translation which is very hard to read. (Register of
