>From what were Cumru, Alsace, Exeter, and Reading
created? I infer from the records that Exeter
was created from Oley township which was in
Philadelphia County until Berks County was
created, which I think happened in 1752. I kind
of get the idea that Oley virtually WAS Berks
County for awhile.
When and from what townships were Cumru, Alsace
and Reading created? And what counties did these
townships originally belong to?
I am especially interested at the moment in
whether Cumru township ever belonged to Lancaster
County, and if so, what was it called and what
churches did people go to (besides Welsh
Baptist)? Someone wrote me that Reading, like
Exeter, is just across teh river from Cumru, and
that a cemetery in Lancaster County is just
across "the line" from a church that was in
Cumru; what is more, I think the name of the
church is Swamp Church.
Is Swamp Church the same church as Longswamp
Church, which I thought was in Philadelphia
County before Berks County was created and I know
only that my ancesters who lived in Oley, Exeter,
Alsace and Cumru went to church there.
