Does anyone know anything about the Ebenezer Evangelical Church in
Reading? I have been told that it burnt down a few years ago.
Unfortunately, I do not see the church records in the HSBC list of
church records. Does anyone even know what denomination it would have
been so that I could figure out what denomination might have kept the
records? Would Evangelical mean Evangelical Lutheran? Or actually,
there was an Evangelical denomination that eventually joined the United
Brethren to become the Evangelical United Brethren which then more
recently joined the Methodists to become the United Methodists. Maybe
this was part of that denomination which could conceivably have its
archives with the United Methodists. Has anyone had any experience
contacting archives for the United Methodists or the Evangelical
Lutherans?
My grandfather, James E. KEEN, joined this church at the age of 12 in
about 1890. I have hopes that he and his siblings were baptized there
and perhaps some of their SNYDER cousins. I am going nuts trying to
trace my SNYDER relatives. I haven't yet found the church that they
belonged to and Snyder is too common a name to examine every one that I
come across - especially since they tended to be named John.
Thanks for any suggestions you can give,
Jocelyn
