Melanie,

Checking in Glatfelter, Pastors And People, Vol. 1 (980), p. 241ff., I
believe you refer to the "New Jerusalem Church" in Greenwich Twp., also
called Dunkel's Church. The earliest mention of the site dated 1744 is
by Reformed Pastor Philip Boehm. He wrote that a Reformed congregation
at Medenkrik (Maiden Creek, also called Ontelaunee), about 12 miles from
Oley, built a little church in which he conducted worship. Evidence
shows that a Lutheran congregation worhshiped in the building erected by
the Reformed congregation beginning in the early 1760's. A clear title
to the land was granted by the state in 1861 to "New Jerusalem or
Dunkel's Lutheran and Reformed congregations."

You do not suggest a date for the membership of your gg-grandparents. I
list here all the Lutheran pastors shown by Glatfelter as serving at
New Jerusalem-Dunkel's, whether they are obviously too early or not:
Daniel Schumacher 1761-1762 and 1764-1765; Helfrich Schaum's gravestone
indicates that at some time he served a congregation at "Antelany,"
thought to be a reference to the early name of this place, Ontelaunee.
Daniel Lehman is named as a pastor here, but without dates.

After the union with the Reformed congregation was terminated in 1969,
the Lutheran congregation joined with the New Bethel Zion Lutheran
Church in Greenwich. At the date Glatfelter's book was published in
1980, he says these merged Lutheran congregations were called Zion
Lutheran, located 1/2 mile east of Krumsville.

My 1988 Lutheran Church Yearbook gives the following address for the
Lutheran church 1/2 mile east of Krumsville: Mt. Zion Lutheran, RD2, Box
94, Kutztown PA 18333.

Hope this helps,

Nelson R. Sulouff
