Hi,

Could anyone tell be if these ROADS are related to John Edwin
RHOADS, Sr., b. 1819-20 in the Manayunk section of Phila., PA? He
m. Sarah HYSLIP & d. 26 Sep 1903 in the Schuylkill Falls section
of Phila. & is buried at Mt. Vernon Cem. in Phila.

Their children were as follows:

Alfred Cook RHOADS, b. 14 Jun 1851
John Edwin RHOADS, b. 1853
Joseph W. RHOADS, b. 7 Oct 1855-56
George RHOADS, b. Oct 1857-58
Frank RHOADS, b. 1859-60
Anna Mary RHOADS, b. 11 Apr 1861

RHOADS - ROADS - RODES - ROTH - ROODS - REID - REIT - REUT

ROAD (see Roth) Some immigrants altered the spelling of
their names to preserve the correct pronunciation.

RHODE (see Roth & Rode)

RODE (clearing) The Low German root rode, meaning a clearing, is
found in Minnegerode and Wernigerode, while its High German
equivalents reit and reut are found in Reitenbach and Reutlingen.

ROTH (clearing, dweller in a clearing).

Roads, John or as John Roods, or as John Reid, PA Line and War of 1812,
Rejected, soldier was born March 6, 1761 in Phila., and he lived 9 miles
from Reading in Berks County, PA at enlistment and he lived there
several years after the Rev. He then moved to Fairfield
County, Ohio where he applied 1 Nov 1832, soldier served in the War of
1812 with 2 of his sons, Benjamin and William Roads under Gen. William
H. Harrison. In 1833 soldier was living at Lancaster, Ohio. Soldier was
deceased in 1851 (no date) family data; John Roads Sr., born 6 March
1761 and his wife (not named) was born 3 March 1756, children; Leopold,
born 14 Oct 1784, Johannes, born 4 April 1785, Jacob, born 5 March 1788,
Samuel, born 2 Dec 1789, Andonnis born 26 July 1800, 'Acarahm" born 5
Feb. 1808 and the last child's name not legible but was born 7 Feb 1805,
the son David was referred to in 1851

War of 1812
Roads, Jacob or as Jacob Rhoads. SC15633 served Capt. George Hartman's
Co. PA Mil.

nothing listed for Benjamin or William.
