*GEBERTS AND TAUFSCHEIN: Johannes KNEPPER son of Jacob and Magdalena
Knepper , was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania on February 25, 1813,
at 5 in the morning. He was baptized on May 21, 1813. The document was
created by Martin BRECHALL who was a teacher in Lebanon County, PA. He
served as a soldier (in his early teens!) in the Revolutionary war and
died in 1831. The price on this is out of sight (right now almost $1500
-- and it looks like the reserve might be around five thousand??), but
it's worth a look.

BOOK: "The Story of the Palantines, An Episode in Colonial History,"
by: Sanford H. Cobb. This volume provides a fascinating history of the
Palatine immigration to Americathe remarkable story of a people who had
been decimated by brutal wars and religious oppression, sought religious
and political freedom elsewhere, were often used and manipulated by
their alleged rescuers, but finally succeeded in their quest. This book
presents a history of the Palatinate communities along the Rhine River
in Germany and of the turmoil which led to the emigration. There is an
account of their great exodus to the American colonies in the early
1700s and of their settlement in the Carolinas, Virginia, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania and New York. The author presents a very detailed history
of the Palatines in New York where he was pastor of High-Dutch churches
in Schoharie and Saugerties. He gives briefer accounts of the
settlements around Berks County, Pennsylvania and in the other colonies.
