Lebanon County
Light. The first name of whom we have authentic record is John Peter
Light, who came from the Palatinate, and located in what is now Lebanon
County, then Lancaster where stands the Old Light fort on the old Union
canel, just west of 11th street, in the city of Lebanon. This was
between 1715 and 1720.

Only the names of his sons are of record, John, Jacob, Martin and Henry.
Following the line of sucession; Jacob's son John, became the father of
John; Jacob; Joseph; Barbaram who married Jacob Light; Elizabeth,
spinster; and Mary, who married Casper Light. The childre of the second
son, Jacob, were: John; Phronica, the wife of Felix Light; Felix;
Sarah; Mary who married Abraham Shirk; Barbara, who married E. k.
Kimmell; and Gideon, who married Nancy Witmeyer.

The birth of George W. Uhrich (subject) took place June 24, 1845 in
Jackson township. He was the so of Valentine and Katharine (Mace)
Uhrich. The name of the grandfather was Valentine also, and he is
supposed to have come from Germany, with his father, also Valantine, who
established the family 160 years ago (1904). The children of Grandfather
Valentine were: Michael Valentin, John, Elizabeth, Katherine, and
Malinda. Valentine e was born in 1812 in Jackson township and died in
1887. In 1839 he married Katharine Mace, of Heidelberg township, and
their four children who grew to maturity were : John; George W.; Amanda
wife of Dr. Willoughby Kline of Myerstown; and Valentine.


George W. married Nov, 1864 to Mary Tice, who was born July 6, 1846, the
d/o Andrew and Eliza (Shirk) Tice.

Hunsicker, John, subject, of Lebanon County, was born in Union township,
Aug 10, 1840, a son of Jacob.

Jacob, the son of Christian, was a native of Bethel township, Lebanon
County, born near Fredericksburg, it is thought he served in the Rev.
The ancestry of the family is Swiss. Jacob was born in 1804, and died in
1864. He married Catherine (Groh) born in 1808 in Fredericksburg, died
in 1881, the d/o John Groh, a native of Bethel township.

John, subject, married in 1873 to Anne E. Shirk, d/o John Shirk (near
Fredericksburg)

Tice, Andrew, subject, of Jackson township, was born April 7, 1822, s/o
John and Catharine (Line) Tice of Jackson township. Andrew married Aug
10, 1845 to Eliza Shirk, d/o Samuel and Catharine (Noeker) Shirk, famers
of Jackson township and a member of 7 children; Cyrus of Lebanon county,
William of Iowa, Catherine, who married Jacob Edris, of MO., and Eliza
who married Andrew Tice.

Gockley, Henry S. born Jan 1, 1845 in Clay township, Lancaster county, a
son of John and Susannah (Shirk) Gockley.


Sherk, John H., of Lebanon county (North Anniville). s/oJohn E. and Mary
(Wenger) Sherk, the former a son of John Sherk who was the original
owner of the Sherk homestead. John E. Sherk, born Dec 13, 1809 and died
Jan 4, 1865. The mother, Mary (Wenger) was born Feb 2, 1823 on a farm
west of Jonestown, a d/o Abraham and Barbara (Light) Wenger, who had a
family consisting of 5 daughter and 3 sons, as follows: Eli, who married
Kate Sherk; Sallie who married John Phillip; Magdalena, who married
David Rauck; Mary, who married John F. Sherk; Henry, who married Sarah
Light; Abraham, who married Kate Light, sister of Henry's wife; Barbara,
who married Rudolph Klein; and Catharine, who married Samuel
Oberholtzer. Mary and Catharine being among the only survivor (1904).
Children of John E. Sherk, Clara, who married Samuel Kleinfelter and had
one child which died at the age of 5; Catharine, died as a baby; John
H.; and Barbara Ellen,who married Aaron L. Horst, of Belle Grove.

John H., married Fanny Bomberger, born Jan 20 1859, Londonderry
township, the d/o Henry and Fanny (Bachman), the latter, the d/o John
Bachman, while Henry Bomberger was a native of S. Lebanon township. Mrs.
Sherk was the 7th child of a family of 8, being; Nancy, the wife of John
Hallinger, Leah, the wife of Jacob Balsbaugh, an infant deceased, John
H., who married Amanda Brightbill, Simon P., who married Lizzie Kreider,
Joseph, died at age 8, Fanny, the wife of John H. Sherk, and Henry K,
who married Alice Behm.

A family was born to Mr. and Mrs. Sherk, namely; John H., who was born
2/12/1883, married Ellen H., d/o Ezra Kreider of N. Anniville township
and had one child, deceased; Mary Ella, born in 1885; Abel Herman, born
Jan 7, 1894; Cyrus B., born Aug 12, 1897; and Enos Joseph, born Dec 4
1898.
