Rose, James Cole, owner of the Pocono Farm, Westfall township, Pike
County. It (the farm) was located one mile from Fort Jervis, NY. He was
born Dec 27, 1840, s/o Elijah and Maria (Cole) Rose. His father was born
in Masthope ( a native NY) in 1813. The father died April, 1871. the
wife was born in Sussex County, NJ in 1812, died in Feb, 1870. Buried at
Laurel Grove cemetery, Carpenter's Point, NY. Children; Sarah, died
young, James C (subject) Margaret J., married Oliver Carpenter, of Port
Jervis, Clarissa, died in childhood, Frederick, married Fanny
Cornwall,and Mary, wife of Linn Ettsal, of Port Jervis.
James Cole's paternal great-grandfather, was Thomas Rose , a native of
Stonington, CT, who moved to Shaytown, NJ, later to Masthope, NY. The
grandparents were Frederick A. and Margaret (Rider) Rose, natives of
Stonington and Orange county, NY. Children; Elijah, Catharine, wife of
Isaac Cuddelback, Benjamin, married 1st Mary Holbert and 2nd Clarissa
Holbert, and Mary, wife of Ezekiel Gumber. The maternal grandparents are
James R. and Jennie (Cuddelback) Cole.
James Cole Rose, married at Elk Lake, Oct 17, 1866 to Elizabeth Martin,
children; Maude, died at age 7, Elijah, died age 5, died within three
weeks of each other, Clarence, Marguerite and May.
Shaffer, Moses, born Sept 13, 1813 in S. Canaan township, s/o Samuel and
Rachel (Wagner). He married Priscilla Curtis, their daughter Angeline,
married Henry W. Rose, of Franklin, Venango Co.
Ruth, E.W. of Delaware Water Gap, was born in Stroud township, Dec 1860.
Jacob Ruth, grandfather, came from Bucks Co., to Bossardville, he died
in 1880, he married Catharine Bossard. They had 7 children; Sanford,
Jacob, Sarah, married Jacob Kresge, Samuel, James, married Ellen Arnold,
Martha J., married Israel Haney.
Robacker, George H., of Green township, Pike Co., s/o George, married in
Pike Co., May 7, 1870 to Louisa Heberling, d/o Peter and Regina
(Strauss) Robacker. Her paternal grandfather, Peter Heberling was native
of Baden, Germany, and her maternal grandparents , John and Elizabeth
(Sailor) Strauss, natives of Wurtember, Germany. Mrs. Robacker was the
second in order of birth, the other being, Emma, the wife John Marsch,
of Green township, Henry, John, Edward all of Green township, Jacob of
Montana, Levin, of Phila., Hattie, married Moses Phillips of
Stroudsburg, Ella, married George Township, Ida, married Jacob Waltz, of
Stroudsburg, Herbert of Green township.
Snyder, William of Northampton County, moved to Monroe County. In 1851
he married Mary A.Phillips who was born May 1, 1828, d/o George and
Elizabeth Phillips, of Monroe County, their son, Samuel, born married
Sept 15, 1868 to Carrie Phillips of Stroudsburg, and had 2 children,
Bernard and Hazel.
Mary (Phillips) Snyder, member of the Methodist Church, belongs to an
old Berks Co, by her 1st husband, Ephraim Sipe, she had two children,
1.Cassie married Milton Warner of Stroudsburg, and had one son Charles,
2. George he married Sarah Miller, and died 1899.
Spragle, Samuel, was born in Hamilton township, Dec 3, 1823, s/o Jacob
and Catharine (Myers) Spragle. The father was born Nov 9, 1799, Member
of the Society of Friends. He died March 28, 1858, his wife in 1860, but
are buried at Stroudsburg, Children; Melcher, married Julian Trively and
died in Stroudsburg, Sarah, married John H. Kunkle and they moved to
Sus. Co, Christiana married John Wolf and moved to Iowa, Julia A.,
married Noah Phillips and died in Pittston, Samuel (subject), Sophia
married Philip Wildrick, Mary A., widow of William Sherer of Luzerne
Co., Jacob married Elizabeth Major and died in Iowa, Abesenia, Catharine
married Jonas Altimues
Bliss, Horace, was born in 1792 in CT., came to Sus. Co., in 1804, he
married April 27, 1813 to Isabella Rose, d/o James Rose. Their daughter,
Anna B., married 1st to Andrew H. Rose, who died April 7, 1855, Mrs.
Rose married 2nd to Col. James West.
James Rose, the father of Isabella (Rose) Bliss, was the only brother of
Dr. Robert H. Rose. He married Isabella Hall of Phila., and they lived
in Northumberland Co. The Rose family were Presbyterias with the
execption of James Rose, who was an Episcopalian.
Robert H. Rose, s/o Dr. Robert, was in the Civil war and was in the
indian war for 1 year. He held the rank of Major. Major Rose married
Charlotte Ladd, of the state of Maine.
Rev. Francis D. Ladd, brother of Charlotte, married Caroline Rose, d/o
Dr. Robert H. of Silver Lake.
