lived there at enlistment and lived there after the Rev for 2 years then
moved to Orange Co., NC, applied there in 1833. Soldier stated his
brothers Abraham and Joshua Underwood both had familes during the Rev.
but that he was a single man. The brother Joshua Underwood was from
Guilford Co., NC

The founders of the Underwoods in America were three brothers,
Zephaniah, Alexander and John, who came over from Wales. Alexander
settled in VA, John in MA, Zephaiah made his home in York Co., PA.
One branch of Alexander's family came to PA, (Owen L. Underwood is a
descendant of this branch). Zephaniah, a descendant of Alexander was
born in York Co, where his son Charles was born. All the Underwoods of
this branch were farmer and members of Society of Friends.
Reuben L. Underwood, s/o Charles, memtioned above as the descendant of
Alexander Underwood, emigrant ancestor, was born 1842 in Unionville,
Center Co. In 1883 he moved to Adams Co, 1903 to Grampian, Clearfield
Co. Member of the Soc. of Friends. He married Emeline Griest and they
had children; Ida J., William A., of IL., Miles W.., of Clearfield, PA,
Eli G., of Schuylkill Haven, Owen L., Edward of IL, Aofred, Lydia, Besse
and Eliza
Owen L. Underwood, son of Reuben and Emeline (Griest) was born April 16
1832 at Unionville, Center Co

Unerwood, Mary Adelaide (M.D) Mrs. Underwood, d/o Edward Marklew, came
to this country from Birmingham, England (about 1850) settted in Phila,
her father srv in USN, he married Mary Jane Manuel, who was the d/o a
French officer, and both of Dr. Underwoods grandfather's fought at the
battle of Waterloo, one under Wellington and one under Napoleon.
Dr. Mary Adelaide, married Robert R. Underwood (M.D.) members of the
Presbyterian Church. No mention of children/
