Subject: [PABRADFO] Cemeteries in Tioga County and other miscellaneous

During my trip from NY City area to Erie, Pa. this past Saturday, I started
out across I-80 and was going to go all the way to I-79 and then north to
Erie, but it was such a nice day, I headed north up US15. When I crossed
the Tioga Co line, I decided I would check out the back road to Wellsboro
that goes through Arnot. I really have no interest in Tioga Co and as most
of you know I have most of my interest in the Troy/Springfield area of
Bradford Co. But being a nice day and no longer having a job to rush back
to (most of you also know that I was corp. downsized and retired on April
1st), the back road route was sure to turn up some interesting things to
photograph. The first thing that caught my eye was a small cemetery on the
left hand side which after checking the Bloss Twp pages I believe is the
Maple Hill Cemetery (I have to verify my photos against the list of names).
I continued in a general west and north direction and came upon a fairly
large well kept cemetery which if I recall from my picture taking is Welsh
Settlement. However, what is puzzling to me is that I thought I had already
crossed into Charleston Twp basis a sign along the road. But on the web
site, Welsh Settlement is listed as being in Bloss Twp. In any case,
continuing up the road, no more than a mile, I spotted a small cemetery off
the road to my left. There was no access to this cemetery, and there was
barb wire pasture fence along the road and quite a ways back on both sides,
but I did walk back in the adjoining field and got some long distance
pictures. I then got some beautiful scenery shots from the top of a hill as
this road finally finds it way back to US 6, just before Wellsboro.
Actually, there is a house for sale that is going to be auctioned off near
the end of April and this house has an absolutely fantastic view down into
the valley. My final stop was at Phoenix Cemetery in Gaines Twp, which is
only about a mile or so from the Potter Co line, I haven't inventoried my
digital pictures that I took Saturday, but as with the ones from the
Bradford Co cemeteries that I took during two earlier trips, I will shortly
be letting everyone know what exactly I have, so if anyone is interested
they will know how to see them.
As I have advised previously, with my being downsized/retired and relocating
back to my Erie home full time, I still have a lot of loose ends to tie up
(such as relocating my PC and genealogy records from my Mt Vernon apartment
back to Erie, and closing out the deal on selling my apartment), but once I
get settled I will be spending many hours on line (especially if this rainy
and dreary weather doesn't ever stop).
So just wanted to let you Tioga Co researchers know that although my
interests are strictly Bradford Co, I did spend some time this past Saturday
documenting areas of interest in Tioga Co and will let the list know when I
have 'inventoried' the digital photos that I took.
