My two cents worth----While both of you have made good points on the subject
of "free" verses "paid" on-line help---------------My "old" work still
appears on some of the "paid" services which over 30 years appeared with the
"Everton Publishing Company" in the form of queries which I paid to
submit------------the information from the first "database" they had (via their publication) I
also paid for while others had to pay a fee to get the information I placed
in the database. That service was very valuable; as I made many contacts (by
snail mail) with people who I was able to help and they likewise were able to
help me. I also found some wonderful new friends and family members which you
can not put a price on----------------------However, the "reality" today is that
I recognize some of my old work of years ago that was INCORRECT and which I
have since found the CORRECT information. This has been done over many years
spent going over the "original" documents (wills, deeds, courthouse records and
so forth).-----------------------The people on-line today are still passing
around "wrong" information found on-line from many sources-------------Yes, this
does point you in the right direction BUT you must do the base original WORK
to prove your family history to truely have a valid history. ALSO, alot of the
old "database" data from Everton is still out there burned forever in a CD!
So, buyer "beware" and "always" seek to find that "document" that
proves your data, thereby, gaining a true "fact"!
Best of luck to all-Happy Hunting.
