Which leads me roundabout to ask something I've wondered. Have any of you
Shappee researchers out there learned much of the origins of Ashkenas (sp)
Shappee, whom I've read was born 1749 Lorraine, France, and died 1797 Newtown,
Tioga (Elmira, Chemung) County, NY? Ashkenas was a Chemung original who came
along with early migrants from Ulster & Orange Counties.

And, who were the earliest Jewish settler families in the tri-counties area,
and when?
