The Bradford County Historical Society has added another new item to their
website - Probate Records (Wills, Estates, etc.). If you go to the Research
Center page of the website address below and go down to Archive Materials
Available and then scroll down to the fifth line that reads - Probate
Records (Wills, Estates, etc.) - and click on that you will go to another
page that has the probate files. Only the "A's" are up so far. The rest of
the alphabet will eventually be up on the site as time permits. If you see a
file that you would like you can request that file from the Bradford County
Historical Society.

Probate records contain information about family relationships and are of
substantial value. Documents likely to be found in probate records include
Wills, petitions for administration of an estate, bonds, inventories of
estates, receipts from heirs and creditors, and other information related to
the settling of an estate. Not all files contain Wills, especially if
someone died intestate (died without leaving a Will). As soon as Bradford
County was formed a probate court was established. The first probate file
involves the estate of John Cranmer and is dated November 19, 1812. The
probate files are among the collections of the Bradford County Historical
Society, which give the name of the person, date of probate, box and file
number. If you are requesting a copy of a file you need to give the name,
box and file number in your correspondence. The files are complete through
Box 16 - file 3050 for Andrew Brennan dated December 29, 1877. Boxes 17 and
18 which contain files 3051 to 3529 are not yet cataloged. Box 19 begins
with file 3530 dated November 11, 1881. Box 19 contains gaps with files 3557
(Jan 1882) to 3588 (Mar 1882) and 3706 (Feb 1883) to 3787 (September 1883)
not yet cataloged. Files are then complete through box 23 which ends with a
file dated March 16, 1888. Box 24 containing files 4450 through 4875 has not
yet been cataloged. Boxes 25 and 26 are complete with the current holdings
ending September 3, 1891.
