<< At the regional library in New Castle, PA there is a book in the
history/genealogy section entitled "Early Bounty Hunters of Butler
County,PA", written by David K. Webber in 1934. Not sure of the dates
it covers because I photocopied only one page, but that one
page includes from May 14,1811 to May 28,1840. The only Graham
listed there(pages 9 & 10) was William Graham, who killed a wolf on
Feb. 13,1815. There are a lot of other references to wolf kills/dates/names,
but I don't have that information here. The bounty
was small and it was paid by the county. The people who collected
the bounties were mostly the locals who were farming and doing
nothing more than protecting their livestock. The information you
are looking for is probably in the book somewhere.

The good thing about the book is that it is one more way to see how early in
Butler History your surname appears..... this can help prove your ancestor
was there.... and as we know, when we have proof that is not as strong as a
birth or death certificates, we need several proofs.
For those of you working back that early in history, don't forget the
donation/depreciation lands. I believe the Butler County Historical Society
can photocopy the list for you and it doesn't cost much. You should
definitely work with deeds and wills. Many times the deeds are a
genealogical find. Judy
