Many years ago the Veterans Administration Medical Center was a sanitarium.
It was purchased by the Army for a veterans tuberculosis hospital. I believe
it became Deshon Veterans Hospital at that time. Later it became a veterans
hospital. Today it is mostly a drug and alcohol administration center,
although other veterans are treated there, too.
There is a housing development that adjoins the above center. It has been
called Deshon Housing Plan. Someone told me many of those houses were ordered
from places like the Sears Roebuck catalogue. They were delivered
prefabricated and sprung up quickly. Maybe someone else knows more about
this. This housing project is on the right side of Rt. 68 and was developed
around WWII, probably right after.

The plan I had previously spoken of is off of Whitestown Rd. and is much
newer. The houses are larger and more modern. My son said lots in it may have
started to be sold in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
