Bio and Portrait Cyclopedia (written in 1899) lists a: William SIMMERS
of Frugality, son of John and Catherine (RUDOLPH) SIMMERS was born in
Prussia, German Empire in 1841. James Simmers, also native of Prussia, was
a carpenter by trade and also served in the German army. In 1842, he
emigrated to America and located at St. Clair, Schuylkill County. James and
Catherine had nine children: Margaret, wife of John WISHER of Schuylkill
Cty; Catherine, wife of George Schetzer of Schuylkill Cty; Charles, soldier
in Civil War; Joseph, also in Civil War; William; Catharine married to John
Youmer of Pottsville, Pa; Mary, wife of Nicholas Cunningham; Harry, section
boss in state of Texas; and Elizabeth of Latrobe, Pa. They were Roman
Catholic.

William moved around Pa working the mines and removed to Frugality in Sept
1889 where he became superintendent of the mines. In 1859 he married Emma
Gadewell (a native of England) in Schuylkill Cty. They had the following
children: Emma, deceased; George, mine boss of Frugality; Margaretta, wife
of William Hall of Lackawanna Cty; William, a miner of Frugality; Catherine,
wife of Mathias Falsey of Frugality; Frank and Harry, both deceased; Abbie,
at home; Michael, deceased; Joseph, a blacksmith of Frugality; Emma, at
home; Charles, Thomas, Mary and James.
