A book named "Images of America - Around Cresson and the Alleghenies" by
Sr. Anne Frances Pulling, printed by Aracadia Publishing, 1997 is a 122
page paperback full of photos from Cresson's past with info included for
each photo. My parents picked up a copy around the Cresson area a
couple years ago and a friend from the area discovered a copy in the same
area for her parents. It's fun to page through - found a photo of my
grandfather in it!

Included is the following blurb about the orphanages (along with photos)

"St. John's Orphanage for boys, established on Country Club Road in 1909
and staffed by the Sisters of The Immaculate Heart of Mary. The
building, destroyed by fire in 1968, is the site of present Veteran's
Park. St. Mary's Orphanage for girls was opened in 1917 on land now
occupied by Skills of Central PA. It was razed in 1983. Both facilities
were sponsored by the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and closed in 1963."

A reunion of the kids was held in 1992. There are photos included from
that reunion.
If you need more info on the orphanages, you should be able to get some
help from the Diocese.
