Horner forwarded this message to me recently, concerning the roots of Anna
Elizabeth Groscost, mother of John Horner, Jr of Johnstown.

Hans Phillip Grosskost (Groscost) b. abt 1689 Mutterstadt, Pfalz,
Germany (Bavaria) and d. in Adams Co., PA. He mar. Anna
Margarita Heim bef. 1715 in Mutterstadt,Pfalz, Germany(Bavaria).
Hans Phillip came to America aboard the Ship "Thistle" of Glascow
in 1730. They debarked in Philadelphia, PA. August 30, 1730. Hans
and his family made their home in York Co.,PA. Hans Phillip became a
citizen of PA. in 1735.
The following children were born to this union:
1. Wilhelm Groscost, b. May 10, 1715 Mutterstadt, Pfalz, Germany
(Bavaria) His Godfather is listed as Wilhelm Heim who was unmarried.
His Godmother is shown to have been Anna Margaretha Reisinger who was
also unmarried.
2. Christoph Groscost, b.Feb. 14, 1717 Mutterstadt(ETC). He mar. Johanna
Steiger Feb 15, 1735 Mutterstadt(ETC) Johanna's father (Johann Theobald
Steiger) was the mayor of Mutterstadt Village.
3. Anna Elizabeth Groscost, b. March 19, 1719 Mutterstadt(ETC). She
mar. Johannes Hanauer-Horner.
4. Phillip Daniel Groscost, b. November 8, 1721 Mutterstadt(ETC).The
Godparents of Phillip Daniel were Philipp Daniel Saar and his wife
Elizabeth.
5. John Groscost, b.1733 Adams Co. PA. He d.1801 Adams Co. PA.

by Dr. Fritz Braun, Kaiserslautern,Germany.
New World Immigrants, Vol. II page 31 " Those that could be identified
are the following: ...5 Groscost(Grosokasten) Phillip
from Mutterstadt".
