Subject: [PaCambri] Check out Houses in Valley Forge park? This means war
Date: Sun, 16 Dec 2001 21:11:20 EST
I have lived 15 minutes west of Valley Forge National Park all my life. It
is a beautiful park that has been used and is continuing to be used by the
public. The public uses it for , walking the 5 miles black topped trail,
biking, kite flying, rollar blading, hiking, horseback riding, sledding etc.
On any occassion you can go through the park and see deer. Most of the park
lies in Chester County with only a small portion of the park in Montgomery
County. The park is literally surrounded by industry, business office
complexes, above middle class housing, route 202, route 23, PA turnpike
exchange, route 422, and not to far away is the Schuylkill Expressway that
takes you into Philadelphia PA. in about 20 minutes. Also the largest
shopping mall on the East Coast. The surrounding areas in Chester and
Montgomery Counties are already being bombarded with housing developments.
What we do not need is more housing especially within the borders of our
national park. Even though this land within the park is privatly owned, more
housing and traffic will continue to destroy our national park and heritage.
Going back about 15 years ago, a few of our local politicians wanted to put a
fee of $1.00 on every person who utilized the park each time. The public
fought this war to keep Valley Forge FREE. As far as I was concerned our
ancestors died and gave their lives so we could live free. They paid the
price, why should we have to pay again. The public won. There has never
been a fee put on the public to use the park. Can you imagine now 15 years
later what that fee might be? It would have gone up, it would not be $1.00
any more. Please take time to read the article in the Philadelphia Inquire
Newspaper on the web site that I have provided for you. I would like to
encourage you to write to your Congressmen and Representatives to encourage
them to help keep this land from being sold to developers.
Thank you Sharon
