hi list.....on a recent visit to the Johnstown library i checked the
microfilm for their Naturalization records.....there is a film which lists
two titles.....Index to Petition for Citizenship and Index for Declaration of
Intention....the index gave a volume number and a page number......what
exactly are these records and what info might they contain?.......found
some ancestors listed but don't know how to obtain this info from the
courthouse using these reference numbers or if these records would hold any
pertinent genealogical info, ie, town of origin, dates, parents names,
etc.....are these records the actual naturalization papers or just steps
taken prior to naturalization??....does anyone know if the actual
natualization papers are also available at the courthouse??.....i figure if
i send the info to the courthouse listing the volume and page numbers that
the info can be sent to me, but what would the fees be??...for instance, my
Great Grandfather according to the census arrived in the US in 1889, too
early for the Ellis Island website, he then came to Johnstown where he
married in 1900, and according to the census he became naturalized as a
citizen in 1905, so i am assuming he did this in Cambria Co......by sending
his volume and page number to the courthouse, would i be able to find the
name of the town in Hungary from whence he came??.....are the naturalization
records themselves at the courthouse and if so, is there an index for
these??....sorry for all the questions......any help
appreciated....thanks.....Joe
