Subject: [PaCambri] Do you have ancestors from Alsace-Lorraine? (part 2)

Hi Folks,
A little while ago, I posted a message to the list that I had scanned all
the illustrations from the book, "Alsace-Lorraine" by George Wharton Edwards
to my Riedseltz web site. I've now also begun OCR scanning the text and
posting it to my website. I have the first section finished, which contains
all the beginning pages plus the first chapter. You can read it at the
following URL (just click on the words, "Section 1" when the page loads):
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gartner/Alsace-Lorraine_Section_1.h
tm

If the URL above goes over 2 lines in you e-mail, it will NOT be clickable.
If this happens, click on the following URL, scroll down to the third book,
and follow the links:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gartner/Riedseltzbooks.htm

You will quickly notice that this book was written during the period of time
that Alsace-Lorraine was still in the hands of the Germans (it transferred
back to France shortly after this book was published)--and the writer did
not try to hide his distain for the Germans! Despite the obvious bias on
the part of the writer, I am finding the book to be completely
fascinating--especially some of the later chapters that go into detail on
local customs and feast days.

I am presently working on the second section of the book, and hope to have
it posted soon, so check back to the site for further chapters in a little
while.

Happy reading,

Linda Braund (Pittsburgh)
