YEOMAN written in a property deed is just identifying the occupation
of the person in which it is written with their name.
Many times when a property was sold, the deed was not recorded right
away. It may have taken days, weeks, months and sometimes years before the
deed was written and recorded. Keep in mind that people had to travel to
their county seat to notify them of births, deaths, property sales etc. Due
to weather conditions, planting seasons, and harvesting seasons, people did
not always get to the county seat right away. They would go when they had
time or when they had other business to take care of. Sometimes one person
in a community would take all the information to the county seat.
It is my opinion that this property was sold in 1828 but the deed was
not recorded until 1837. This is not unusual. I have seen this happen many
times in my 9 years of deed research. Why the witnessed date is 1830, I do
not know. It would be my guess that it was a wrong date entered, which was
not unusual.
