More info on the Platt sisters Agnes & Elizabeth,
Thanks to a question from Bill Mackey, I put some more records together for
the sisters Agnes & Elizabeth PLATT.
Ledoux vol 1 p 144 St. Michael's, Loretto
#03022.30
BLATT, Agnem (Joannis/Sarae)
b. 05-28 bp 06-11-1815
gp. Michael Levy/Maria Little DAG
Looks like Agnes took 10 years off her age in the 1870 census, telling the
census taker she was 45.
Ledoux vol 1 p 16 St. Michael’s, Loretto
#00341
BLATT, Elizabeth (Joannis/Sarae)
b. 06-15 bp. 08-12-1810
gp. Henricus Byrne/Catharina Blatt DAG
Looks like Elizabeth, living in the same household, also took 10 years off
her age in the 1870 census, telling the census taker she was 50.
My guess is that the given age for husband William was correct at 44 and
Agnes wanted to appear closer in age to him than she was (11 years older)
Since Agnes & Elizabeth lived in the same household, they probably felt
they had to be in cahoots when they shaved those 10 years off their ages.
Hard to pull off with a straight face when you are 60 and 55 years old.
Sounds like something Lucy & Ethel would do. I will be looking at some
other census records & will let you know what I find. (There were no extra
comments from the census taker concerning the records taken at the WARNOCK
household for the 1870 census.)

Subject: [PaCambri] Will of John Platt Jr
| Greetings to the list,
|
| Just found a bit more info on the John PLATT family of Cambria Co. I am
trying (without much success) to post the will of John Platt Jr to the
PACAMBRIA site. Hope to accomplish this by next week.
|
| John Jr left Cambria Co for Westmoreland Co PA after his wife Sarah Byrne
Platt died.
| Not sure exactly when he moved to Westmoreland Co, but in the 1870 (June
29, 1870) census he was in Derry Twp, Blairsville PO living with daughter
Elizabeth Platt (age 50) All resided on the family farm of daughter Agnes
(age 45) and her husband William WARNOCK (age 44)
The will was written April 29, 1871 and proved April 2, 1872. According
to the Vignos work, John Jr is buried at St. Simon and St. Jude Church,
Blairsville, Derry Twp, Westmoreland Co PA. No tombstone or record could be
found.
| John Platt's will was written April 29, 1871 and proved April 2, 1872.
| I am assuming that "proved" means he died sometime just before or on
April 2, 1872.(if incorrect, please let me know)
| John Jr. cuts out most of his children in the will, leaving extra money
to Elizabeth and putting her in charge of paying for the funeral. He did
not
stipulate a tombstone and the Vignos researchers of this Platt family
couldn't find one, so I quess Elizabeth bought a really nice black dress
with Daddy's money.
|
| Based on only this will and this 1780 census (age 86 at his last
birthday), we have
| John Platt Jr, son of John Platt Sr. (1784- 1872)
| Since the Vignos work has John Jr. dying about 1862-67, I have a small
hope that they might not have looked at the church records as late as 1872.
| Here is the will as I'm not sure when it will be posted to the site. Next
step - to look at church records in Westmoreland Co.
| If the witness named below, James Donnelly or Richard Sloan, are in your
line, please email me off list.
