Subject: [PaCambri] Availability of older vital records?
Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 18:37:27 -0500
Thanks to the wonderful help from folks on this list, I have been able to send for a death cert and a will from Cambria County.
But when I called the Register's office about them, the woman said that birth, death and marriage certs are not available until 1893 or so.
However, at my local historical society, I found a book that says Early Birth and Death (delayed birth) records are available from 1841 onward in "13 volumes", and that marriages are available from 1870, with some 1852-54 "old certificates".
I would like copies of some birth. marriage and death certs from these early periods--does anyone know if they are really available at the courthouse in Ebensburg, as the book said? And if so, why the Register's Office didn't say that when I asked?
Thanks!
Mona
