Huntingdon Co., PA Orphans Court May term 1803 named as heir of MichaelMcGuire of Allegheny Twp.

The house he built for her was still standing in the 1980's.

"...In 1790 Luke McGuire, eldest son of the captain, took up hisresidence on the farm now owned and cultivated by his grandson, GeorgeLuke McGuire, about one-half mile east of Loretto, on the road leading tothe town of Gallitzin. This point was not far from the original cabin, and is distinguished as being the location of the oldest house nowstanding in Cambria County. Completed in 1794 it was first occupied byLuke McGuire and his newly wedded wife, Margaret O'Hara, and in it theyreared a family of eleven children..."(Storey, Henry Wilson. History ofCambria County, Pennsylvania. New York: The Lewis Publishing Co., 1907.Vol. 1. Pg. 78.)

"Two years after Captain McGuire's death, in September 1795, SusanBarlow Burgoon, the Methodist wife of the Catholic John Burgoon, fellseriously ill and the McGuires summoned a priest from Conewago toadminister her the last rites. There are conflicting stories as to whofollowed the 130 miles of Indian trails to Conewago to summon help. Oneversion has the ride made by 21-year- old Margaret O'Hara McGuire, wifeof Luke McGuire, daughter in law of Captain Michael McGuire and sister ofCatharine O'Hara McMullen of Sinking Valley. We doubt that MargaretMcGuire lugged along the McGuire family Bible, but to show a nexusbetween these early Catholics of Pennsylvania, the Luke McGuire Bible wasprinted in Philadelphia by the great pamphleteer Matthew Carey of the St.Joseph's Parish. It was the first Catholic Bible printed in America."(Adams, Edmund and Barbara Brady O'Keefe. Catholic Trails West, TheFounding Catholic Families of Pennsylvania. Vol 2. Baltimore, MD:Gateway Pre!
ss, Inc., 1989. Vol. 2. page 635.)

These two families continued to have contact because in 1809 Lukeadministered Peter McMullen's will. (Your Family Tree. Vol. 17 No. 3Summer 1971 Pg. 66.)

His will is at Cambria County Courthouse, Ebensburg, Pennsylvania. File179.

LUKE MCGUIRE and MARGARET O'HARA were married on 30 Jan 1794 in Baltimore Co., MD?.[3] MARGARET O'HARA (daughter of HENRY O'HARA and MARGARET UNKNOWN O'HARA) was born in 1774 in Baltimore Co.?, Maryland.[4] She died on 10 Jan 1833 in Loretto, Allegheny Twp., Cambria Co., PA.[5],[6] Maiden name given in the bible records.(McGuire Family Bible. Michael1766-1881. Holy Bible, translation Latin Vulgate, The Clementine Edition.Nov. 1748. [Ebensburg Sky Thursday, 10 Jan 1833]

MCGUIRE, Margaret, widow of Luke Esq., died this morning, aged about 60years.

The O'Hara family is confusing. It would appear that Margaret, CatherineMcMullin, Esther Glass, Henry, and Daniel were siblings. However in thewill of Henry of Frederick Co., MD, only Daniel, his son David, andMargary the wife of John Daugherty.

Deed records up to this point have not helped.

More work is needed.
