There is a fairly common family rumor that Michael Sr. was married twice. Once to an unknown and then to Patience Wells. I have found no evidence of this unknown wife. All my research concerning Michael and his children would conclude that Michael Sr. had only one wife, that being Patience Wells who was born around 1710 and died in 1776. I believe Patience and Michael married between 1730-1740 and certainly before 1744. I believe their oldest child was born around 1740, but certainly not before 1730. I am ever seeking more documentation on the marriage and births of the older children.

MICHAEL MCGUIRE and Patience WELLS were married between 1730 and 1740. They were married before 1744. Patience WELLS (daughter of James WELLS and Ann unknown WELLS) was born between 1710 and 1715 in Baltimore, MD. She died on 11 Sep 1776 in Frederick Co., MD.[3] Patience's birth can not be found. She is not listed with the other Wells children in the register of St. Paul's Church, Baltimore Co., MD.[Anglican] in 1735. The age for her brother Thomas comes from his age at time of death. Patience is usually placed in the family after Thomas but before James who was born in 1716. There is no proof of this placement.

1771 November 14 Patience Maguire and Thomas Wells next of kin on estate of James Wells [Baltimore Co., MD register of wills inventories book 9 pg. 391] MICHAEL MCGUIRE and Patience WELLS had the following children:

+2 i. John MCGUIRE (born about 1740).

+3 ii. MICHAEL MCGUIRE (born about 1740).

+4 iii. Thomas MCGUIRE (born in 1749).

+5 iv. Patience MCGUIRE (born in 1751).

+6 v. Nicholas MCGUIRE (born in 1753).

+7 vi. Susan MCGUIRE (born between 1755 and 1774).

+8 vii. Ruth MCGUIRE (born in 1760).

+9 viii. Peter MCGUIRE (born in 1763).

+10 ix. James MCGUIRE (born before 1765).

11 x. Mary MCGUIRE was born on 16 May 1766 in MD.[4] She died on 21 Nov 1829 in Loretto, Cambria Co., PA.[5] She is named along with Peter as nearest of kin to the estate of Michael McGuire, Sr. in 1789.
