A few days ago I promised an obit from southern Cambria County. What better
time to send this particular one about old Johann (my grandmother's
grandfather) that mentions the German Order of Red Men!
Facts about John Krouse taken from obituary in the Tribune
John Krouse, born in Hessen Darmstadt, GERMANY, October 1826, died 1906 in
East Conemaugh, PA. He had been sick a long time with asthma. He fell into
unconsciousness and never revived. One of the oldest citizens in the town.
Previously lived at Market and Lincoln Streets, Johnstown, PA.
First married Henrietta Shawda in Germany. They came to this country about
1849. She died, leaving two children: Andrew and Lena.
In 1862, he married Mary Kaylor, daughter of Phoebe Wendell and Phillip
Kaylor. This took place in Cambria City, Johnstown, PA.
During the Civil War, he served in Co. M, 12 PA Cavalry. In Germany, he was
associated with the German Tribe of Red Men*.
