ST. LAWRENCE HOTEL BURNED
The St. Lawrence Hotel in St. Lawrence was burned to the ground early Sunday evening. The flames, which originated from a defective flue, having gained considerable headway before being discovered. The home of Mrs. Barbara Warner also caught fire, but a bucket brigade succeeded in saving that structure.
The hotel building was owned by Matt Collar/Kollar and Dr. S. W. Worrell of Patton, and James O'Brien operated the hostelry.
The loss on the building is $2,700 on which there is an insurance of $1,500, while O'Brien has a loss of $1,500, on which he carried $500 insurance.
Note: Matt Kollar also owned the Miner's Rest Hotel in Patton, which is still operating under that name as a restaurant and bed and breakfast.
