The article below says John Heyden McGuire's grandfather is Michael
McGuire. I show his grandfather as Luke McGuire b. 2 Oct 1768 in the
Pipe Creek Settlement, Frederick Co. Maryland d. 17 Apr 1831 buried
at St. Michael cemetery, father of Michael Luke McGuire b. 28 Aug
1811 d. 24 Dec. 1852, m. Sarah Glass. Is this correct?
Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., January 26, 1933, p. 6, Aged Pioneer To
Be Honor Guest - CRESSON, Jan. 26 - One of the earliest settlers in
Sankertown borough, John Heyden McGuire, today is quietly observing
the 86th anniversary of his birth at the residence of his son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Albert McGuire of 98 Sumner
street. The octogenarian is enjoying the best of health and members
of the family have planned a reception in his honor this
evening. Since the death of his wife on Oct. 12, 1910, Mr. McGuire
has made his home with his son. The most of his lifetime he pursued
farming and a number of years was engaged as a teamster in Loretto,
hauling lumber for the various saw mills in that vicinity. He was
born on Jan. 26, 1847, in Loretto, a son of Michael and Sara (Glass)
McGuire and is a grandson of Michael McGuire, an early settler in
Cambria county. A brother, George Luke McGuire of Sankertown, will
attain his 84th birthday anniversary on Feb. 19. The father died
while John Heyden was a mere child and his mother answered the call
on June 10, 1904, and both are buried in the St. Michael's Catholic
church cemetery, Loretto. Mr. McGuire and Miss Mary Jane Coons,
daughter of the late William and Anna (Burns) Coons, Loretto, were
united in marriage in the original St. Michael's Catholic church,
Loretto, on June 5, 1871. The late Rev. Edward A. Bush, parish
rector, presided. Previous to establishing his permanent residence
in Sankertown, Mr. and Mrs. McGuire resided in Munster and Loretto
for many years. Thirteen children were born to this union of whom
the following are living: Mrs. John Nagle of Barnesboro; Alice, wife
of John Adelsberger of Summit; Clara, wife of Fred A. Hines of
Hoguetown; Susan, wife of William S. Hart; Bernard McGuire and George
Albert McGuire, of Sankertown. Mr. McGuire has thirty-eight
grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is identified with
the St. Francis Xavier's Catholic church, Cresson, of which the Rev.
James A. Graven is pastor, and is a regular attendant.
