If you are unhappy with FTM, give PAF a try. You should be able to create a
GedCom file from FTM and open it in PAF.

There is also a PAF list on Rootsweb that you can turn to for help.

Thanks Ellen. Quite right, one should be able to create a GedCom and open
in another software, but before purchasing that software I recommend to
read and ask questions about problems encountered or additional operator
work needed to fully transfer your GedCom file from one software to
another.
Rootsweb offers mailing lists for discussion of several brands of genealogy
software. At the Rootsweb homepage are the tabs for both mailing lists and
message boards.
Genealogy software mailing lists can be seen by typing the word *software*
in the find field after selecting the mailing list tab.
Genealogy software message boards show up on the first page after selecting
the message board tab.

Reading the users posts will help you define those features most important
to you and which software offers those features. Also helps to decide to
wait or purchase the latest version of your current software.
Many times *Quality is Job 1* isn't realized until Job 1 build 42.

Legacy 7

I have used PAF 5.2.18.0 for many of years on Windows XP and now on Windows
Vista. I have friends who use it on Windows 7 with no problems. It is fast,
will do what you want, and is a free download from the LDS site at:
