You may have heard this. The Mormon Church has put the entire 1880 census
online! It can be searched for FREE! What is awesome is that you can
search the whole country for a name. This is handy to find those lost folks
who were moving around the country in that previous decade.

Let us know of any finds using this resource!
Personally, I may have found a long lost 4th Great Uncle using this census!
Below is the story I sent out to my extended GORE family:
For those of you who do not recall, I have been searching for my/our 4th
Great Uncle Elijah Gore, born July 10, 1831 in North Rome, PA, son of Silas
and Catherine ELLIOTT GORE for a few years now. Elijah joined the 1st
Louisiana Cavalry and fought with the Confederate Army during the War. He
was captured in 1863 and spent the next two years in federal prisons. He
was released in Virginia and two weeks later appears with his regiment in
Meridian MS where he was furloughed and paroled, never to be heard from
again.
Well, just recently, the Mormon Church has placed the entire 1880 Census
online. You can search names on it and everything. Of course the first
person I looked for was Elijah and one popped up that could be him!
In the listing there is an Elijah GOORE born in 1832; in PA with PA born
parents living in Bayou Sara, West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. West
Feliciana is where Elijah joined up with the Cavalry!
I realize that the wrong year and the extra O in the name are a problem and
I will need to do some research to either prove this is or isn't our Elijah.
The actual census record may have his birth month. It is way too much of a
coincidence to have this guy living here and not be our Elijah. I will let
you know what I find. So far I have found an Elias GOORE who was born in PA
in 1845, so there was at least one GOORE family in PA at one time. Most of
them were in Ohio and Vermont though.
This is the best lead I have had on him in years! IF any of you GORE
researchers can assist me in proving this one way or another I would
appreciate it!
