Robin, there are three James Berfields on the same page in the1860
census in Wharton Township, Potter County.
James Berfield, age 28 - farmer - wife Martha J.
James S. Berfield, age 19, son of John and Rebecca
James A. Berfield, age 5 mo., son of Stephen Berfield
Have you accounted for the 28 year old and the 19 year old? The 28 year
old is the first in a series of 3 Berfields in a row in the census,
James, Josiah, age 29 and then John age 57 and his large family. All
were farmers. There is one farmer named Burlingame between that series
of three and Stephen Berfield age 27.
