Hi Bernie!

The training camp you were refering to was in Gardeau and was run by Boxer Jack Dorval until his death in 1940. He died in a plane crash. The Endeavor did an extensive article about him a while back. many famous boxers of the day came to work at the camp.

I am looking for some information. My stepfather (Bo Smith) was an amatuer boxer in this area maybe back in the 1920's. I remember he was a very young man, maybe 18 or so. There used to be place in either Gardeau , Keating Summit or maybe upper Sizerville Rd. where matches were held and it was also a training camp where quite famous boxer trained. I read about it not long ago, but now can't remember to many of the facts and don't remember where I read it. Anyone know anything? I realize this probably may be in McKean or Potter counties, but haven't heard anything from them yet and then I thought of all of you and that you might remember something and save me a lot of time!
Also, I think I told all of you this once before, but just had the chance to revisit it again while I was looking for some information about the training camp. McKean County has a great site called Planet Smethport http://www.smethporthistory.org/ . A visual tour back in time.... worth a few minutes to take a look!
Bernie
