Subject: [PACE-L] Paces on Dawes Final Rolls
Date: Tue, 7 Nov 2000 19:33:04 EST
The Dawes Final Rolls was a census of the residents of the Cherokee Nation of
Oklahoma which was taken in about 1902 but includes some later births.
There were 18 Paces on these Rolls, 17 were Cherokee and 1 was Choctaw.
I have been able to identify the ancestry of all of the Cherokees but not the
Choctaw. Most of them are close relatives of mine.
Etta E. Pace nee Ward was the wife of John Milton Pace, Sr., my grandfather.
Their children on the Rolls were: Elva M. Pace, Joseph C. Pace and Minnie G.
Pace.
Annie L. Pace, nee Downing was the wife of William Hayden Pace. Their
children on the Rolls were: Elbert E., Hayden A., Joel S., Lauraette
(Loretta) L., and Louis C.
John M. Pace, Sr. was a son of John Harvey Pace b. 1831 and Florence Hayden.
John Harvey was a son of Christopher Stump Pace
William Hayden Pace was a son of William Christopher Pace b. 1838 and Loretta
Hayden. William Christopher was another son of Christopher Stump Pace.
A separate Pace branch is as follows:
Minnie Pace nee Helton was the wife of James Pace b. abt 1870. Their
children on the Rolls were: Carry May, James W., Leonard, Lora, Rosa L. and
Thomas Jefferson Pace.
James Pace is a son of James H. Pace b. 1835 and Rutha A. Mulkey. James H.
is a son of Thomas Pace b. 1797 VA and Hester Turner. Thanks to Becky Pace
for helping me to identify this branch.
Both of these branches have been traced back to the Colonial Virginia Paces.
Gordon W. Pace
