Re listing on the tax lists in Virginia

Boys were supposed to be listed when they became 16 --after the Revolution.
Before the Revolution the age changed several times on the tithe lists
that were created. In many cases at 21 years of age, the male is listed
on a line by himself on a tax list. However on a tithe list (before
te Revolution) 21 or over were often listed with the head of the household.
