Most of the TX Paces were handwritten and were transcribed by Nancy W. Wood
() who has much better eyes than I do.

All of the Texas Paces, with the possible exception of Thomas A., are
descendants of Jesse Kirby Harris Pace and Elizabeth B. Petty. The following
are descendants of Stephen C. Pace and Dovey S. Martin: Alexander, Charles
A., Lester A., Loney F., and probably James P.

This Roll consists of all Eastern Cherokee, except Old Settlers, residing
either East or West of the Mississippi. Ordered by the Court of Claims as a
result of suit won by the Eastern Cherokee. In order to be enrolled one had
to be alive on May 28, 1906 and establish themselves as a member of the
Eastern Cherokee, or a descendant of a member living at the time of the
violated treaties. 3,436 Cherokee east of the Mississippi and 27,284
Cherokee west of the Mississippi were certified to participate in the
monetary award. They had to prove an ancestor on the Eastern Roll but many
of these same people participated in the Dawes Roll also, which stated that
they had to live in Indian Territory. The Guion Miller Roll can also be found
at: http://www.tngenweb.usit.com/cherokee_by_blood/index.htm or

Much more information about these people can be found by ordering the
Enrollment Packets.
