One more thought that maybe no one has considered.
Let's assume the Winifred Aycock Lane letter is 100% true. She names her
grandfather as Richard and his father's name as Richard, then names her
grandfather's brothers.
So what does this prove? How is it proven that her great grandfather
Richard was the same Richard that was the grandson of Richard of Jamestown?
Couldn't there possibly be more than one Richard Pace in Virginia? So many
of those early records have been lost! Even if her letter is 100% true, the
belief that her great grandfather Richard was Richard II is an assumption
based on the name and location. She does not say anywhere in her letter that
her g grandfather Richard was descended from Richard of Jamestown.
It's always wise to be skeptical when the only evidence is circumstantial.
