The Jamestown Society does not accept that the wife of John Pace of Middlesex was a Elizabeth Newsome, the daughter of William and Anne Sheppard (Hart Newsome) Foster. However William and Anne did have a daughter Elizabeth, who was named in her mothers (Foster) will. There were also Neusams (Newsome) in Lancaster County from which Middlesex County was taken. There was also a daughter Elizabeth in that family. She was to rec'd her fathers land if he two brothers were deceased at the time of her fathers death. But the matter of fact is that it has never been proven that Elizabeth, the wife of John, was a Newsome. The second tract of land (50 acres) which was purchased by John Pace from Pritchard ,deed reads John Pace of Lancaster County, this was in 1699 ( Deed book 2 p. 286) and some believe these acres sat next to the 150 acres John purchased from Henry Nicholls in 1693 ( Deed book 1a pp. 588-591). Middlesex was formed in late 1668 and early 1669. John paid quit rent on 200!
acres in early 1700s. This may be a future project for the Pace Society Documentation Group. Best-Jack

I've already spent many hours looking for Newsome in Shropshire PRs; the
name does not show up, nor in archives of
or GLS or WOR. At this point, from
what you say, it would appear Newsomes were of London and probably had
similar emmigration ideas as Richard Pace. Francis Newsam/Newsome, of
St.Dunstan's parish, a contemporary of Richard Pace, did not show in any
further St.Dunstan's Christenings, as father, after his daughter
Elizabeth's Chr.1611. I wonder if Francis Newsome went to the colonies
and William may have been a son, born after Elizabeth
Chr.1611.St.Dunstan's. Jack Pace, Ruth Keys Clark and others, I think,
have done considerable Virginia research. Would the name Francis Newsome
show up?
