Gordon,

You said:

"There is another Frederick Pace, son of John Pace and Sarah Burgh of Surry
Co, NC, who was born much later, abt. 1768."
"a few people on this mail list have assumed that the DNA tests (which did
not match any other Pace test results) were from descendants of the latter
Frederick Pace "

No, that is NOT what these folks are saying. The latter Frederick Pace does
not even figure into their arguments.

They are saying that John Pace b. 1761 (per Bruce Howard) was NOT the son of
John the Tory and Sarah as Bruce argues, but was the son of a Frederick Pace
of Wales, of whom there is no written record.

"The next son of John and Sarah Pace we will discuss was their son John. He
was born in Edgcombe County, North Carolina. I have calculated his year of
birth as 1761." (Bruce Howard)

These folks are saying that this John is their ancestor and was the son of
Frederick of Wales, not John and Sarah. They don't even figure the other
Frederick into the equation. I believe you have not understood their
arguments. THEY ARE NOT SAYING THAT THEY ARE DESCENDED FROM THE LATER
FREDERICK PACE. They do not even mention this later Frederick Pace.

Joe:
In your message of Dec 18, 2006, you indicated that you did not understand
my message re Frederick Pace of Wales that I posted on Dec 9. I will
explain. There were 3 or 4 Pace DNA tests done for descendants of a
Frederick Pace who the descendants say came to Virginia from Wales in 1768.
This Frederick was born abt 1744 or earlier as his first son, John, was born
abt 1761. There is another Frederick Pace, son of John Pace and Sarah Burgh
of Surry Co, NC, who was born much later, abt. 1768. He lived in
Chesterfield District, SC and the Tombigbee River settlement in MS. His
wife was named Jenny and his known children were: William b. 1784, Patience
b. abt 1798 and John b. 1800. According to Bruce Howard, in his book Our
Colonial Ancestors, the latter Frederick or his children made up a story
that this Frederick came from Wales. This was supposedly done to hide the
fact that Frederick was a son of the John Pace who was a Tory, i.e. a
British loyalist. The point I tried!
to make was that a few people on this mail list have assumed that the DNA
tests (which did not match any other Pace test results) were from
descendants of the latter Frederick Pace and therefore prove that this
Frederick was not a son of John Pace and Sarah Burgh. This is not true. We
do not have any DNA tests from a descendant of the Frederick Pace who was a
son of John Pace and Sarah Burgh.
