There has been some confusion on the list about the lineage of Frederick of
Wales, and some questioning of my wording on the Donors page. To attempt to
clarify, I have reworded the Donors page as follows. Comments and
criticisms are welcome.

Roy Johnson

One group of Paces has a family legend that their ancestor was a Frederick
Pace of Wales.

They trace their lineage to a John Pace b. ca 1760 or 61, d. ca 1820/21
Clark County, AL. It has been believed that this John Pace is a son of John
Pace "The Tory" m. Sarah (?Burge?). These submitters have a family legend
that their ancestor John b. ca 1761 d. ca 1820/21 Clark Co. AL was NOT the
son of John m. Sarah, but was the son of a Frederick Pace of Wales (b ca.
1744), who came to this country with his son John (b. ca 1761) ca 1768.
This son, they believe, was the John who died 1820/21 in Clark County, AL,
and was actually born in Wales, not Edgecombe County, NC, as has been
assumed.

(Do not confuse this Frederick with a later Frederick Pace b. ca 1768,
assumed to be the son of John m. Sarah. The submitters do not claim lineage
from this Frederick.)

Their DNA does not match with the others who trace to John m. Sarah, so it
is not likely that he is the father of their John b. ca 1661.

The problem is lack of documentary data. There is no documentary evidence
of the existence of Frederick of Wales b. ca 1744, and no documentary
evidence of the birth or parentage of John b. ca 1661, assumed son of John
and Sarah. Also, the Pace Society is currently unable to find documentary
evidence on the younger Frederick Pace b. ca 1768.
