Elizabeth,

How does the following "line up" with data that you have?

The Shueys are my line (altho' I'm NOT a descendant of Jacob and Sarah). I
am a descendant of Jacob's sister, Catherine Ann, who m. my gt-g'father,
Cornelius Dale Houtz. Nevertheless, I am researching all Shueys of Centre
County and just happened to have this data on them. I trust it proves
helpful.

The following is taken from the "COMMEMORATIVE BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD of Central
Pennsylvania, Including the Counties of Centre, Clearfield, Jefferson and
Clarion," (1898) J. H. Beers & Co., p 432, excerpted from a biographical
sketch of Jacob's son, C. C. Shuey: "Jacob Shuey, who is an industrious and
successful agriculturist, was born in Harris township, Centre county, Sept.
6, 1830. He was married there in 1852 to Miss Sarah Strohim, a native of
Haines township, Centre county, born Nov. 4, 1830. She, too, is of German
descent, and her father, who resided in Penn's Valley, died when she was a
child, leaving 3 sons and 2 daughters, viz.: Charles, now in Iowa;
Elizabeth (Mrs. Robert Ray), now deceased; John, who resides near Zion,
Centre county; Sarah (Mrs. Shuey); and Christ, a resident of Grace Hill,
Washington Co., Iowa. For some time after his marriage Jacob Shuey lived
near Centre Furnace, and later he located upon a farm at Buffalo Run, but for
34 years past he has made his home in the Nittany Valley. He is a leading
member of the Evangelical Church, and is highly esteemed among his
associates. Of his 7 children 4 died at an early age. The others are: (1)
Ellen (Mrs. William Johnstonbrough), of Marion township, Centre county, in
the Nittany Valley; (2) Peter, night watchman for the Berwin-White Coal
Mining Co., at Anita, Jefferson county, Penn.; and (3) C. C., the subject of
this sketch."

Obituaries of both Jacob & Sarah were contained in a front-page news article
of THE CENTRE DEMOCRAT of 2 Jan 1913 which reads: "JACOB AND SARAH
SHUEY--Braving the storms of life together for 60 years, and parted by death
for but a few short days, Jacob Shuey and his beloved wife, Sarah Strohm
Shuey, are again united--in the everlasting life that knows no parting or
sorrow. Saturday, Dec. 21, the home of Mr. & Mrs. Jacob Shuey, near State
College, was visited by the Death Angel and took hence the spirt of the wife,
Sarah Strohm Shuey, after an extended illness with bright's disease. Her age
was 82 years and 16 days. Funeral services were held in the Houserville U.B.
Church on Tues., Dec. 24, conducted by her pastor, Rev. S. A. Snyder, of the
Lemont Evangelical Church. The following day, Dec. 25th, the aged husband,
Jacob Shuey, was seized with an attack of acute indigestion and within a few
hours his spirit had taken flight. His age was 82 years, 3 months and 19
days. The funeral was held last Fri., services being conducted by the same
pastor who officiated at the burial of his wife. Surviving the deceased pair
are 3 children, namely: Mrs. Barbara Johnstonbaugh, of Marion Township; Peter
Shuey, of Donora, Washington County, Pa.;and Rev. C. C. Shuey, of Bellefonte.
One brother, Jonathan Shuey, of State College, and a sister, Mrs. C. D.
Houtz, of Lemont, survive the husband, while Mrs. Shuey leaves one brother,
Christian Strohm, of Grace Hill, Iowa. Jacob Shuey was the son of Peter
Shuey, who came from Schuylkill County in early manhood. He was born in
Harris Township where he spent the greater portion of his lifetime. He was
married there in 1852 to Miss Sarah Strohm, who was a daughter of Mr. & Mrs.
Michael Strohm, natives of Haines Township, where her birth occurred. For
some time after their marriage, Mr. & Mrs. Shuey lived near Centre Furnace;
later they located upon a farm at Buffalo Run where they resided for several
years, afterward moving to the farm they last occupied. Both were leading
members of the Evangelical Church and held in high esteem by many friends."
