Hi gang!
Here's something for you to think over:
Would you be interested in having a message board setup for Chester-Roots where
all of the messages would be posted to a page rather than mailed out to the
list? All the messages would be threaded with the replies attached to the
original post, the way messages appear in the usenet groups, except they would
post on a set of pages.
The advantage of doing this would be that all of the messages would be visible,
including the replies, eliminating the need to retrieve older messages from
archived files. It would be easier to follow the thread of messages and
newcomers could see what was going on before they arrived much easier. Because
the board would be setup on my Carrollcon site rather than on RootsWeb, I can
also set up a search engine to look for names or subjects in the postings.
The drawback to a board like this would be that folks would have to go to the
page to see the postings rather than sit back and wait for mail to be delivered.
Alternatively, we can have both the list and the message board, though that
would be pretty redundant.
Or, should we leave Chester-Roots the way it is and setup up a general PA
message board for genealogy? Since both Chester-Roots and Penna-Dutch deal with
rather specific areas, and the Erie-Roots list includes a lot of non-PA traffic,
such a message board could fill in the gap between the three existing lists.
Let me know what you think, OK?
Mary
