For Births and deaths before 1906, contact the courthouse in the county in
which the birth or death occurred. Marriage and divorce records (of any
date) should be directed to the County Courthouse in which the marriage
license or divorce decree was issued.

In the case of Chester County, these could be found at the Chester County
Archives, 601 Westtown Rd. Suite 080, West Chester PA 19320-4527.
(610) 344-6760. They are open M-F 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Your Maud Supplee presumeably died after 1906, so you could get her death
certif. from the PA Dept. of Health, Division of Vital Records, P.O. Box
1528, New Castle PA 16103-1528. Fees for Births- $4.00; deaths- $6.00.
Write to them first for an application, or send me your fax number and I
can fax you a copy.

This is IF YOU KNOW THE DEATH DATE! The problem with vital records in PA,
is they don't search very readily. Massachusetts, for example will search
10 years for you. PA will only search 3 months for $8.00. So if you want a
whole year searched, it costs $32. This gets prohibitively expensive. They
also get snitty if you don't tell them the hospital or funeral home and
send the application back with "not enough information."

Does anyone on the list have any suggestions for finding a death
certificate when you don't know the date?
