I ordered, from the LDS, one of the films that contain the genealogical
records of Cope, a name familiar to any of us who do research in Chester
county. The film # that I received was 585702, and had, among others, his
information on the Newlin family. What makes this so much more interesting
than most other genealogical data, is that it is a film of his actual
correspondence with people; the letters of those asking his help with"so and
so", and those containing the information that they were sending him.
Perhaps the information is what has since been put into other books, but
there is a great charm in seeing the original handwriting, etc...plus, who
knows what little item you might find!.
As I recall, there were several films, with each one covering 10 or more
surnames. You can look on the CD or the microfiche of the Salt Lake
Library's holdings, to see which film has the names you are interested in.
...the volunteers will show you how, and if you haven't done this yet, I
suggest you do so. It's one of the best thing the LDS has to offer! The CD
allows you to type in place names, and will then shows you what all the
Main Library has on that place: town, county, etc. The microfische
contains the same information....
I found Cope's correspondence fascinating!
